Welcome to Yoichi Kayama as the newest member of the Tim Donahue Signature Harp Guitar family!
Yoichi is unique in that he is a keyboardist, and has never played guitar before. So his approach to playing his
TD harp guitar does not involve having to break with standard guitar techniques, like picking with the right hand.
Being a keyboardist, Yoichi is also used to right/left hand independence, and this has allowed him rapid
progress in integrating the harp and fingerboard notes of the harp guitar. Congratulations Kayama-san!
6/20/2011

NEW HARP GUITAR ACCESSORY / DR. FRET
I recently revisited an old idea from 1991 and developed a new accessory for the Tim Donahue Signature
Harp Guitars. Called DR. FRET, this simple retrofit will raise the pitch of each harp string by one semitone,
thus giving the 6-string harp a total of 12 notes! Now it is possible to modulate chords and melodies on the
harp portion of the guitar. Another accessory in the DR. HOOK lineup, DR. FRET can be seen here.
NEW HARP GUITAR PLAYERS
Tim would like to welcome Rick Menzel of Texas and Kayama-san of Tokyo as new members of the
Tim Donahue Harp Guitar family! Thank you both and I look forward to hearing your work on the new production
harp guitars.

It has been a while since the last update as things have settled down a bit after the massive disaster in Japan.
The devastation up North is going to be around for a long time, but cleanup has begun in areas that can be accessed, and are not highly contaminated by radiation from the Fukushima accident.
That said, all is well where we are and there is lots of new music and harp guitar developments on the way!
3/12/2011
Thank you for everyone's concern for my well-being after experiencing the massive earthquake that struck
Japan yesterday.
Thank you for everyone's concern for my well-being after experiencing the massive earthquake that struck
Japan yesterday.
I was in Tokyo when the quake struck. But fortunately, after a long and unforgettable ordeal trying to drive out
of Tokyo, I was able to make it back to my home in Mishima (100km away). The mass exodus I saw throughout Tokyo was something right out of a movie. I have the utmost respect for the people of Japan- they really have it together in situations like I was in yesterday. The sheer number of people on the move was of historic proportions, yet everyone was so calm and collected in the face of calamity. Not once did I witness anything other than calm from everyone around me.
I was told that I could go to schools in Tokyo to spend the night, as the government designated 240 schools
to take in people who couldn't return home because of trains that had stopped or roads that were impassable.
And Tokyo wasn't even at the epicenter of the quake! Yet, in order to alleviate the exodus I described above,
people were welcome to spend the night (with basic accomodations provided) at one of those 240 schools.
Countless times in my 30 years of living in Japan, I have often felt the warmth and hospitality of people here.
It's no exaggeration to say many times I felt it is an honor for me to live in Japan. Last night was another time
to feel such an honor.
My condolences to the many, many victims of this disaster. The scope of the devastation is still hard to fathom,
as news reports try to keep up with the tragedy as it unfolds.
Thank you again for everyone's concern for me and my family. We are well but incredibly worried about how
Japan can deal with this catastrophe.
Please make a donation to help our Japanese friends here.

Many thanks always to everyone who turned out for another ECLIPSE concert at The Crocodile in Tokyo.
The new Tim Donahue Signature Harp Guitar sounded great, tuned down to bass guitar registers.
Tim is excited about this development, as the guitar's natural low bass tone is much more clear and refined
than using the guitar synth to get a low bass sound. More on this development soon!

I can now call a good friend. Check out his website.
